I am hosting a clothes swap to raise funds for women living in poverty. Join me to have some fun and make a difference in honour of International Women’s Day!
Why women?
There are many cases of women being disempowered around the world, but this is especially true for poor women in developing countries. Did you know that women perform 66% of the world’s work and produce 50% of the world’s food, but earn only 10% of the income and own only 1% of the property? Over 70% of the world’s poor are women and girls. This could be your mother, your daughter, your wife, your sister, or, you.
See the difference you can help make to women like Ana
So let’s get swapping!
By recycling our wardrobes we are taking a sustainable approach to fashion, and by raising funds for Opportunity, we’re also taking a sustainable approach to fighting poverty. Opportunity provides microfinance – a sustainable, long-term solution to poverty; empowering women in developing countries with small loans to help them start a business, earn an income and provide for their families for years to come.
Where do the funds go?
The money raised through this clothes swap will go towards helping Opportunity provide microfinance and other support services to people in developing countries – whether by expanding their operations and outreach, building the capacity of the organisations they partner with or by providing small loans. Either way, funding will be directed to wherever it’s needed most. One business impacts one family which equates to, on average, five people. So come on – let’s recycle our wardrobes and empower some women!
